Saving the Svatá Hora Spring

The Marian spring is a small chapel-like structure with an onion-shaped roof, built over the original well. The building has been considerably degraded by alterations carried out in the last century: the oval windows were bricked up, the plaster was repaired with unsuitable material, and the well was sealed with a concrete slab that also forms the floor of the interior. Despite these unsuitable and destructive alterations, several partial findings suggest that much of the original decoration has survived. Fragments of linear patterns emerge beneath the paintings of the inner walls just below the ceiling, and the outer south-western niche preserves relatively well-kept remains of folk fresco figural decoration (the Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus).

The restoration is carried out under the supervision of the National Heritage Institute in Prague and the Regional Authority of the Central Bohemian Region.

Cost of the restoration (excluding ineligible costs): CZK 3,815,130 incl. VAT

Owner's mandatory share (the parish): CZK 1,526,052 incl. VAT + CZK 74,770 incl. VAT (ineligible costs)

Start of the restoration: 13 October 2025

Planned completion of the restoration (within 12 months of the call): 3 October 2026
